Don't Skip Film!
Building a SUPERPOWER That Will Pay Off BIG TIME

What’s up, Consistency Club fam!
If you’re following along via YouTube or Instagram, you’ve seen I spend a lot of time breaking down my film. Not only do we have team film studies in preparation of our games and as postgame analyses to learn and grow as a team, but I can’t emphasize enough how important watching your own film is for an individual player’s development.
Why film study matters (more than you think)
Here’s what happens when you commit:
- You train your basketball IQ / pattern recognition.
Most of the game is repeatable patterns. When you watch full games, you begin to see how offenses and defenses flow, where spacing breaks down, when help comes, when rotations lag. Once your brain “knows” what’s coming, you can react faster with less thought.
- You self-scout—find your leaks you never saw live.
In the heat of games, mistakes blur into “bad plays.” On film, you can isolate: “Why did I bail early? Did I slide too far? Did I fail to hedge? Was I late communicating?” The margin of error becomes visible.
- You learn from others at a deeper level.
You don’t just watch your own film—you watch greats. LeBron James, for example, studies how he leads the break, how he gets downhill in transition, or how he manipulates spacing. Incorporate clips of guys you admire and reverse engineer their decisions.
- You build consistency and accountability.
Watching film isn’t sexy or flashy, but it forces discipline. It’s a mental workout. As some coaches say, film is a prime mental exercise off the court that leads to on-court payoff.
- It can inform training / strength & movement decisions.
Strength coaches increasingly use video to spot movement inefficiencies, compensations, or tendencies. That means the stuff you see on film can filter into your gym work or mobility plan.

My Challenge to Myself → Review all my Euroleague games and share with you guys.
If you have been part of the Consistency Club for a while now, you probably remember last season I did some film studies last year on my YouTube channel.
I didn’t expect so many people to reach out and tell me how valuable they found it, or keep asking for me to review this game or that game.
As I anyways review all my film, I thought I would challenge myself to showcase that process and potentially give some valuable insights from my side. So we can be students and improve our game together.
At the professional level, film is baked in to our job, but for young and aspiring athletes, it’s something active you need to do. But I promise you, this level of effort is what separates the greats.
I’ll leave you with a funny anecdote, and maybe another reason you shouldn’t skip film :)
Nick Calathes learned this the hard way, as he shared in a recent podcast about a film session he had with my coach, Itoudis, and coach Obradovic.
Weekly Challenge
If you’re an athlete, watch your previous game footage. Pick out 2 things you did well and 1 thing you could improve from each quarter. Then, try to find a current pro you admire who you think does the things you need to improve better than anyone. And watch their clips.
Do this for a month and ask yourself:
“Do I see an improvement in my decision-making on court? Am I becoming more strategic?”
Trust me, investing in yourself now will pay off way more than you can see today.
Stay disciplined, stay consistent, and keep growing.
Check the links below for my PDFs where I share more practical tools and examples you can use to build your own routines.
And remember Faith + Consistency. That’s the formula.
Thank you for being a part of the CONSISTENCY CLUB🙏
If you have comments, questions, or suggestions, PLEASE respond to the newsletter about anything. I want to hear from you and I promise, I read every response. My goal is to continue making a great Playbook and building a great community where we all get better together. And you’re a part of that journey!
Let’s Build Confidence + Consistency, on and off the court!
