Back at it!

Today I want to share 2 ideas that’ve been on my mind when it comes to consistency, and how I THINK about it.

I see too many amazing players get caught up in the unimportant things and miss the mark. Hopefully these ideas will change that!

Idea 1: Skill is built through repetition

The biggest thing, especially during the summer, is neuroplasticity. I’m a nerd when it comes to this stuff because it’s been crazy helpful in my basketball journey.

Increasing your neuroplasticity is making your brain pathways stronger, which comes from doing the same thing over and over.

Consistency.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a balance of being consistent and having intensity, but I focus more on consistency and putting in the reps:

  • over many days

  • with tons of mistakes

  • and lots of wins and learnings

All to help me connect those neurons.

For example, using a trainer can be awesome because they put you through a variety of moves. But these random moves, scattered across a training session, don’t always translate to skills. You’re not connecting any neurons.

It’s why I train specifically to the point where I focus on the same move over and over during the entire training session. Consistency wins every time.

I dropped a full shooting session with a pro trainer if you want to see it in action:

Idea 2: Find the 1% Improvements

There are so many skills that go into becoming a great player, on and off the court.

But with so many things you're trying to focus on, it’s hard to actually hone in on getting better at one skill. The guy focusing on 1 thing will move faster than the guy distracted by 3 things.

Reverse-engineer from the end goal that you want and find the 1% improvements.

I always think about the one percent and getting better in little increments.

You’ll see in the video that I’m training with a weighted vest on. That gives me a small edge on my skills that someone else isn't doing.

It allows me to increase the outcome without increasing what I'm already doing.

And even wearing something simple like WHOOP allows me to measure all my data; a level up compared to flying blind.

You can't manage what you don't measure.

Once you do, the 1% starts to compound.

And that’s it!

If you have teammates, coaches, or athletes who you think need to hear some of this, get them in the club! I always love hearing from you guys and helping as best I can. I read every response.

I dropped my Workout Library below to help you own your skills and focus on those small improvements. Let me know what you think!
