🏀Tired of being on the BENCH?

Hello. Thanks for starting the new year off with Playbook. I'm Elijah Bryant, NBA and Euroleague Champion. That doesn’t matter because this is about you. I've crafted a playbook 📖 to elevate your success on the court delivered to your inbox every Friday. Stick around until the end to uncover how to deal with not getting on the court.

Basketball Tip 🏀

Dealing with not playing in your games? I want to provide you with a guide on how to handle this situation because it's not that you are exempt from it in your career; it's more about when it will happen to you.

Remember, everyone is at different levels in this game, so maybe you aren’t ready to play. The real question is, what does your work ethic look like? What does your energy look like?

The number one thing I would tell you is to control what you can control. You can only control your body, your attitude, and everything about yourself. Do not let anyone get you out of character based on the game.

I understand you put so much time and effort into your game, and you want to play, but now is not your time. Can you keep working?

The next thing, as we have talked about before, is to develop a system that allows you to progress even if you aren’t playing. If you want to know how to structure your workouts.

You are being tested to see how bad you want it. The third thing is that you need to learn how to control your emotions. Not only will this help you in this situation, but it will also help you in your life. If you really don’t know why you aren’t playing, go and talk to your coach respectfully, take notes, and develop your system to get yourself more minutes.

I don’t know you specifically, but I can imagine you probably think you are the next Stephen Curry, which maybe you are, but before you can do what Curry does, you need to impact winning. If you don't know what that means ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Weekly Challenge 🔨

I want you to keep track of how many deflections you get in practice.

Deflections means you re active on defense.

In order to be active on defense you have to be focused and communicate.

If you are playing defense I promise your leash on offense will get longer.

Q&A âť“

How to speak to your coach about not playing

Speaking to your coach can be intimidating, especially when you feel like he controls your destiny.

Understand that the coach is human, just like you, and he has probably been in your situation before. In most situations, the coach is not doing it to punish you; he is just trying to give his team the best chance to win.

Ask your coach for a meeting after or before practice. Go into the meeting with your emotions, ego, and pride left at the door.

Understand that this is your coach, so hear him out, then express how you feel.

Ask him for specific things you can work on to earn his trust more.

At the end, reiterate that your goal is to help the team win.

Thank you for grabbing your playbook 🙏

We look forward to seeing you next week, unless you don’t want more confidence. 🤔
